Istin is a medicine used to lower blood pressure. The active ingredient of Istin is amlodipine, and the medicine is available in strengths of 5mg or 10mg tablets.
You can buy Istin for high blood pressure online from Prescription Doctor. Simply complete our online consultation with our registered prescriber. If your order is approved by our doctor before 3pm, our UK registered pharmacy will dispense and dispatch your medicine the same day, and post it out using a discreet next-day delivery.
High blood pressure is when blood is pumped around the body with too much force. This can be due to the heart beating too hard or fast, your blood vessels being narrowed by contracting muscles or a build up of plaque, or a combination of both an increased heart rate and constricting blood vessels.
In most cases, high blood pressure does not cause symptoms, so it’s unlikely you will know that you have it.
The only reliable way to know if you have high blood pressure is to get your blood pressure checked by your doctor. Some pharmacies may offer a blood pressure check if you can’t get to your doctors. You can also buy home blood pressure monitors from some pharmacies or online.
If left untreated, high blood pressure can damage the blood vessels, and increase your risk of cardiovascular conditions, such as heart attack or stroke.
Treating high blood pressure can help relieve strain on your body and decrease your risk of complications.
Istin contains amlodipine, which is a calcium channel blocker.
A calcium channel blocker causes the muscle cells in the artery walls to relax.
When this happens, the arteries widen and blood can pass through more easily – the heart does not have to work so hard to ensure enough oxygen is pumped around the body, and therefore the blood pressure is lowered to a safer level.
Istin is only available on prescription, and therefore your doctor should be able to explain to you how to take it. It’s important to take Istin exactly ask your doctor has prescribed.
Usually, Istin will be taken once a day. You can choose any time to take your medication, although it is best to take it at the same time each day.
The dose will usually start at 5mg and be changed to 10mg if needed.
You can take Istin with or without food. Istin tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.
If you find pills difficult to swallow, Istin can be dissolved in water – if you choose this option, you should drink the mixture immediately.
Do not eat or drink any products that include grapefruit as this will react negatively with Istin (amlodipine).
If you realise you have missed a dose of Istin you should take it once you remember to. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue to take Istin as prescribed.
Do not take more Istin to make up for the dose you missed.
If you do take too much Istin, you should contact your doctor or go straight to the nearest hospital A&E.
Do not drive; if you have no one to drive you, you must call an ambulance. An overdose of Istin can cause dizziness and tiredness, and therefore driving is dangerous. When you go to hospital, take the packaging including the patient information leaflet for the medication as well as any remaining medication with you.
Before taking Istin, it’s important to familiarise yourself with the information outlined in the patient information leaflet enclosed with your medicine. The patient information leaflet contains important information regarding the safety of Istin, including instructions on how to take and store the medicine.

Istin is usually taken for the rest of your life to keep your blood pressure low.
If you wish to stop taking Istin, it’s important to speak to your doctor first. They will be able to discuss why you wish to stop taking the medicine and suggest a suitable substitute for you.
If you stop taking Istin, it is likely your blood pressure will return to the level prior to treatment. It is important that blood pressure is kept under control to prevent complications from occurring.
You can drink alcohol while taking Istin. However, this might affect how Istin work’s, and your blood pressure might lower too much causing dizziness, tiredness, and headaches. If this happens, stop drinking alcohol but continue to take Istin as directed.
Although for the majority of the time Istin will not affect your ability to drive or operate machinery, if you feel dizzy or sleepy when taking it, you should not do either of these activities.
