Patient Reviews: How Amias Has Made a Difference

Buy Amias online?

Amias is available to buy through our online private prescription service, following a short consultation with our doctor. To begin your order, simply fill out our online consultation form. Our online doctor will review your case and issue a prescription if suitable. Our UK pharmacy team package items in nondescript, plain packaging to ensure your privacy and ship them straight to your preferred address via a next-day, tracked courier service.

Amias is used to treat high blood pressure which does not have a specific cause (known as essential hypertension). It is also used to treat heart failure in adults.

How Does Amias Work?

The active ingredient in Amias tablets is candesartan, which is an angiotensin II antagonist, also known as an angiotensin II blocker or ARBs. This means that it prevents the angiotensin II hormone from working – this hormone is responsible for raising blood pressure. It does this by causing blood vessels to narrow, plus it causes aldosterone (another hormone) to be produced. This hormone in turn increases the fluid within the body, and specifically in the blood vessels. So when taking Amias, the patient will find that their blood pressure should lower.

In addition, if the blood pressure is lower the heart does not have to work as hard, and therefore this medication is often used for patients who have heart disease.

How Do I Take Amias?

It will depend on the reasons as to why Amias has been prescribed and the patient themselves as to how much should be taken. Your doctor will set out instructions individually, and these should be followed carefully.

Instructions on how to take Amias can be found on the packaging or in the leaflet supplied with your treatment.

Usually, Amias will be taken once every day, and it is best to take it at the same time each day to help you remember, and to prevent accidental overdose.

You can take Amias on a full or empty stomach, but should be swallowed with water.

Continue to take your medication as prescribed until told not to by your doctor.

Side effects and cautions

All medicines have the potential to cause unwanted side effects. It is important that, before you begin taking a new medicine, you understand the risks involved and remain vigilant of any changes while taking Amias.

Information regarding the safety of Amias, including a complete list of side effects, ingredients and information about the manufacturer, can be found inside the patient information leaflet (PIL) which comes enclosed with your medicine.

Alternatively, you can view the patient information for Amias online.

Who should not take Amias?

Amias is not suitable for everybody. If you are unsure whether it is safe for you to take Amias, speak to your doctor before you buy Amias online.

Those with decreased liver function should avoid taking Amias.

Amias contains lactose. If you suffer from lactose intolerance, speak to your doctor about other treatments.

Who should get medical advice before using Amias?

Although Amias can be effective for many people, there are certain groups who should receive medical advice before they buy Amias online. These include:

  • Those with decreased fluid volumes
  • Those with kidney disease or decreased kidney and/or liver function
  • Those with narrowing of the arteries
  • Those who have had a stroke or have cerebrovascular disease
  • Those with lower blood flow to the heart
  • Those with severe heart failure and mitral valve stenosis

Amias and other medications

Always tell your doctor about any other medication you are taking when they are prescribing medication to you. These include over-the-counter medication and herbal medication.

When you buy Amias online, you will be presented with a medical form which asks about any medicine you may be taking. It is important to fill this section out with as much information as you can about the medicine you are currently taking.

Amias may have a negative effect when combined with other blood pressure lowering medication.

When taken in conjunction with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), Amias may not work as effectively.

If you are currently taking lithium, speak to your doctor about the correct dosage to take alongside Amias.

Side effects of Amias

Even though a side effect is listed, it doesn't mean that you will experience it. It's important to remain vigilant during your course of treatment with Amias.

Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Changes in kidney function (increased risk of kidney failure)
  • Dizziness/Spinning sensation
  • Headache
  • Increase amount of potassium in the blood
  • Low blood pressure (may make you feel faint)
  • Respiratory infection

This is not an exhaustive list of side effects. A complete list of side effects can be found within the leaflet enclosed with your medicine. We advise you to read this leaflet before taking Amias.

If you experience any side effects, regardless of whether they are listed above or in the patient information leaflet, inform your doctor straight away or call NHS 111 for advice.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Do not take Amias if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you become pregnant while taking Amias, stop taking Amias and inform your doctor straight away.

Allergic reaction

Do not take Amias if you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any of the other active ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet.
