Patient Reviews: How Nasobec Aqueous Nasal Spray Has Made a Difference

What is Nasobec aqueous nasal spray used for?

Nasobec is a nasal spray which is used to prevent the symptoms of hayfever from developing. It is taken daily over a period of time to prevent sinus issues such as sneezing, itching of the nose and congestion.

Each spray of Nasobec contains 50 micrograms of a synthetic corticosteroid (steroid) called beclometasone (sometimes spelt beclomethasone).

Can I buy Nasobec aqueous online?

You can order Nasobec aqueous nasal spray online without a prescription through our online prescribing service.

Simply complete our online medical form for one of our doctors to review. If your order is approved before 3pm on a weekday, your item will be dispensed and dispatched from our UK pharmacy via a fast and discreet next-day delivery service.

What is hayfever?

Hayfever is the name given to a type of allergic reaction to pollen. Despite its name, hayfever is not necessarily triggered by hay, nor is a fever one of the symptoms.

In those susceptible to hayfever, exposure to pollen from trees, grass and other plants can cause the nasal passages to become inflamed and irritated.

Symptoms of hayfever can include:

  • A runny nose (nasal drip)
  • Blocked nose (congestion)
  • Coughing
  • Earache
  • Headache
  • Itchy throat, mouth, nose and ears
  • Itchy, red or watery eyes
  • Pain around the temples and forehead
  • Sneezing
  • Tiredness
  • Weakened sense of smell

Hayfever can also trigger asthma symptoms and has the potential of causing an asthma attack. In those with asthma, hay fever may cause a tight feeling in the chest, shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing.

How can I prevent the symptoms of hayfever?

While there is no cure for hayfever, there are many ways of preventing symptoms from developing. Some of these methods include:

  • Avoid walking on grass
  • Keeping windows and doors shut when the pollen count is high
  • Not drying clothes outside
  • Reducing time spent outdoors
  • Remaining indoors
  • Showering and washing your clothes more regularly to wash the pollen off

When these are not viable solutions, medicine should be considered. Speak to your pharmacist about hayfever treatments, such as antihistamine tablets or decongestants.

If your symptoms don't improve after taking these medicines, or your symptoms worsen, arrange an appointment with your GP to discuss more treatment options.

How does Nasobec work?

Nasobec contains a corticosteroid called beclometasone.

When administered through the nose, it works to reduce swelling in the nasal passages, making it easier to breathe.

The inflammation occurs as an immune response to the particles of pollen. Similarly, to any other allergic reaction, your immune system sees these harmless particles as a threat.

In response, the cells in your body fire chemicals called histamine, which cause inflammation.

Beclometasone prevents the cells from releasing the chemicals. As a result, the inflammation and symptoms do not occur.

How long does Nasobec nasal spray take to work?

Nasobec nasal spray does not relieve hayfever symptoms immediately.

You need to use Nasobec regularly for a few days in order for Nasobec to reach it's optimum effectiveness.

If you do not notice an improvement in your symptoms after using Nasobec nasal spray for 7 days, inform your doctor.

When using Nasobec to prevent and relieve hayfever symptoms, you should begin taking Nasobec a few weeks before the hayfever season begins.

If your hayfever symptoms worsen while taking Nasobec nasal spray, inform your doctor immediately.

How to use Nasobec aqueous nasal spray?

In order for Nasobec to be effective, it needs to be taken daily.

For the best results, begin taking this medicine a few days before you are expected to develop symptoms.

While Nasobec aqueous does not provide instantaneous relief from hayfever, it does prevent hayfever symptoms from developing.

Typically, two sprays of Nasobec are administered in each nostril twice daily. You should try to take this medicine at the same time each day.

If you struggle to remember when to take your medicine, you can try placing your medicine in a place you will most likely remember to take it, such as in your bathroom or on your bedside table. You could also set an alert on your mobile phone to remind you when to take your medicine.

Before you can use Nasobec for the first time, the nasal spray needs to be primed.

To prime your nasal spray:

  1. Remove the clip and gently shake the bottle.
  2. Remove the dust cap
  3. Hold the bottle upright. Support the bottle from beneath using your thumb and place your index and middle fingers on either side of the nozzle.
  4. While holding the bottle away from you, another person or pets, press the nozzle down until a fine mist is sprayed.

If you have not used your Nasobec spray for a week or longer, repeat steps 2 through 4 to ensure your spray is working correctly.

To use your nasal spray:

  1. Gently blow your nose
  2. Press one finger against the side of your nose to close one nostril
  3. Start to breathe in through your nose slowly and insert the nozzle into your nostril.
  4. While breathing in, press the nozzle down. This will administer a spray of Nasobec.

If you need to administer a second spray, repeat steps 2 through 4.

Repeat steps 2 through 4 for the opposite nostril.

After using your nasal spray, wipe the nozzle with a clean, dry tissue or handkerchief and replace the dust cap.

More information on how to clean your nasal spray can be found in the patient information leaflet supplied with your medicine.

What should I do if I forget to take my Nasobec when I should?

If you forget to take Nasobec when you should, use it as soon as you remember and continue to use your Nasobec as you normally would.

Do not use more Nasobec to make up for the missed dose.

What should I do if I use more Nasobec than I should?

If you use more than 8 sprays in 24 hours, tell your doctor immediately.

What happens if I stop taking Nasobec aqueous?

You should not stop taking your medicine unless your doctor has informed you that it is safe to do so.

Nasobec does not provide instant relief from symptoms and can take a few days of continuous use before you will begin to notice the benefit
