Gather Supplies

Before administering your Wegovy injection for the first time, read the Wegovy instructions in your patient information leaflet. 

Preparation 

Start by washing your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap.

Choose and Clean Injection Site

Wegovy is administered as a subcutaneous injection, which means you inject it into the fatty tissue just under your skin. You should rotate your injection sites with every dose to prevent hard lumps from developing under your skin.

• Stomach — Avoid scar tissue and stay at least two inches away from your belly button.     
• Back of your upper arm — You may need someone to help you reach.      
• Thigh — Choose a different area for every dose to minimise the risk of scar tissue or injection. 

Don’t inject into areas where your skin is irritated or bruised.

Inspect Your Injection: 

Check your Wegovy pen to make sure it hasn’t been used, isn’t broken and the medicine is clear and colourless, finally, check the expiry date hasn’t passed.

Insert Needle

Attach a new needle from the pack by pushing it into the pen and twisting it until it is secure.

Prime Injection Pen

Turn the dose selector until you see the flow check symbol. With the needle pointing up in the air, tap the cartridge gently to collect air bubbles at the top. Press the dose button until a drop appears on the needle tip.

Select The Dose

Turn the dose selector until the prescribed dose appears in the window; depending on your pen, this will be 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg,1.7mg or 2.4mg. 

Position The Weight Loss Injection

If you are nervous about administering your injection, you will tense up. 

Try to distract yourself by listening to soothing music while injecting. 

Sitting rather than standing can also help to relax your muscles.

Administer the Injection Pen Dose

Press and hold the dose button until the dose selector shows 0 and you hear a click. 

Continue to hold the dose button in and slowly count to 6 to make sure the full dose is delivered.

Wait for the Injection to Complete

Remove Injection

Carefully lift the Wegovy weight loss injection from your skin and dispose of the needle in your sharps bin. Never reuse needles!

You can take Wegovy at any time of day, but you should take it on the same day each week. For example, if you begin using Wegovy on a Monday, you should inject each weekly dose on a Monday. What Should I Do If I Miss a Wegovy Dose?

If you forget to inject your usual Wegovy dose, what you’ll need to do will depend on how long it has been since you should have administered the medication.

If you miss a dose and your next dose is more than 2 days away, inject your missed dose as soon as you remember. You should inject your next dose as usual on your next scheduled day.

If it is less than 2 days until your next scheduled dose, you should skip the missed dose. Inject your next dose on your usual scheduled day.

Never take a double dose to make up for a missed Wegovy dose.
