What is Piriteze?

Piriteze is a fast-acting, non-drowsy antihistamine used to treat allergies including allergic rhinitis (hayfever, dust mite allergies, pet allergies), allergic skin rashes (hives or urticaria), and chronic nettle-type rashes (chronic idiopathic urticaria).

Marketed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), you can buy Piriteze tablets over the counter from pharmacies and supermarkets, as well as reputable online providers such as Prescription Doctor.

Each Piriteze UK tablet contains 10mg of cetirizine. It is suitable to be taken by adults and children (aged 6 or over).

Piriteze contains a non-drowsy antihistamine called cetirizine hydrochloride, which works by blocking histamine receptors in the brain.

When the histamine receptors are blocked by cetirizine hydrochloride, hayfever symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing, itching, watery eyes and rash do not occur.

You can buy Piriteze online from Prescription Doctor, following a short online consultation. We provide a discreet, next-day delivery service to ensure your privacy.

Piriteze And Patch Tests

If you suffer from allergies and are due to have a patch test or skin prick test to diagnose those allergies, do not take Piriteze for three days before your test is due. Antihistamines can reduce the effectiveness of these tests and give you a false test result.

How long does Piriteze take to work?

Piriteze starts working within 30 minutes, and reaches its maximum effectiveness after 1 or 2 hours.

How to take Piriteze?

For adults and children over 12, take one tablet once a day with a glass of water.

Piriteze can be taken with or without food.

If hayfever or allergic reaction symptoms continue after taking Piriteze, seek advice from a pharmacist or doctor.

In order for Piriteze to be effective, it should be taken to relieve allergy symptoms once they have begun, or if you anticipate them beginning in the near future.

For example, you can take Piriteze about 30 minutes before you expect hayfever symptoms to affect you, or once you feel your hayfever symptoms affect you.

What should I do if I forget to take Piriteze when I should?

If you forget to take Piriteze, your allergic symptoms may persist. Take the correct dosage as soon as you can to relieve symptoms.

Never take a double dose of your medication; Piriteze should only be taken once every 24 hours.

What should I do if I take too much Piriteze?

Call 111 immediately or contact your doctor if you accidentally take more Piriteze than you should.

Do not drive. Either call an ambulance or get someone else to take you to the hospital.

Side effects and cautions

Before taking any medicine, whether bought over-the-counter or prescribed by a doctor, it is important to read the patient information leaflet enclosed with your medicine.

Who Should Not Take Piriteze?

Although Piriteze is a form of medication that most people can use effectively, there are some patients who should avoid it. These include:

  • Children under 6
  • Patients on dialysis with severe kidney failure
  • People who are allergic to any of the ingredients

Who Should Get Medical Advice Before Using Piriteze?

If you are in any doubt about whether you should take Piriteze to ease your allergy symptoms, it is best to speak to a medical professional. People who should do this as a matter of course include:

  • People with kidney problems (it may be possible to take a lower dose, but this should be discussed with your doctor first)
  • People who have epilepsy
  • Pregnant women
  • Breastfeeding women

Piriteze And Other Medications

Since histamine can be used to treat leukaemia, it is not recommended for patients undergoing this treatment to take Piriteze.

Piriteze can also interact negatively with betahistine, so should be avoided if you have been prescribed this medication.

If you are unsure of the effect Piriteze may have with other medications, speak to your pharmacist.
