What is Phenergan?

Phenergan is an antihistamine which is used to treat travel sickness. It contains the active ingredient promethazine - the same ingredient found in other travel sickness tablets such as Avomine.

You can buy Phenergan online from us without the need of a prescription. Simply fill out our short medical form for our medical team to review. If the treatment is suitable for you, our UK based pharmacy will dispense and dispatch the item directly to your door via a fast and discreet delivery service.

How does Phenergan work?

Travel sickness is a condition which occurs when messages sent from the inner ear and the eyes contradict one another.

Inside your inner ear are 3 semicircular tubes which sense motion. These tubes are part of the vestibular system - the part of the system responsible for balance and a sense of orientation. A fluid moves in these canals, which in turn moves hairs connected to nerves. They report any movement the body feels.

When the brain receives the message from the vestibular system saying that motion has occurred, it combines the message with signals sent from the visual system via the optic nerves.

If the vestibular system detects motion but the eyes do not perceive motion, the brain interprets this that the body is under threat by a poison or other unknown substance. In response, it fires histamines to rid the body.

These histamines trigger the vomit centre of the brain. As the name suggests, this is the part of the brain which sends messages along nerves to the stomach in order to cause the body to vomit, thus expelling any harmful substance which it thinks have been ingested.

The antihistamine known as promethazine, which is the active ingredient of Phenergan, blocks the action of histamine in the body. The vomit centre of the brain is not informed of the mixed signals and so nausea and vomiting does not occur.

How do I take Phenergan?

The usual dose of Phenergan for travel sickness is 20mg or 25mg taken the night before the journey.

Take two 10mg Phenergan tablets or one 25mg Phenergan tablet the night before you plan to travel.

The tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.

Do not crush or chew the tablet.

If you have trouble swallowing tablets, you can buy Phenergan Elixir - this is liquid or syrup which is taken orally.
