Chlamydia is one of the most prevalent sexually transmitted diseases (STD). In 2018, chlamydia accounted for 49% of all new STD diagnoses in England.
Chlamydia is a bacterium which is spread through semen and vaginal fluids during sex and can be caught through unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex. The infection can be passed on to your partner through genital contact, even when penetration, orgasm or ejaculation does not occur.
You cannot catch chlamydia through kissing, hugging, sharing glassware or cutlery, shared baths and swimming pools or toilet seats.
Some symptoms of chlamydia in women include:
In most cases, a person will not notice any symptoms which can make it difficult to know when to get tested. This can mean you can be infected with chlamydia without being aware, which in turn can cause you to delay seeking treatment.
However, if a chlamydia goes unnoticed and untreated in women, it can cause complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and lead to complications during pregnancy, including premature birth, eye infections (conjunctivitis) and infections of the lungs (pneumonia) in newborns.
It is recommended to annually test for chlamydia if you are under 25 and every time you change sexual partner. This is because young people are more at risk of contracting chlamydia.
If you suspect you have an STI, have been told by a previous partner that they have an STI or believe you were put at risk of contracting an STI, you should get tested.
SELFCheck's Female Chlamydia Test detects a chlamydia trachomatis infection using a vaginal swab and can provide easy to read results in minutes. Each test kit contains a single test which you can use from the privacy of your own home.
You can buy a SELFCheck Female Chlamydia Test online from Prescription Doctor. These test kits are relatively simple to use and can provide results in minutes.
When you order your test kit, our UK based pharmacy will send the kit to you via a next-day discreet delivery.
The kit comes with everything you need to conduct a test from the comfort of your own home. You don't need to send a sample off to a lab and wait for the results to come back.
Note: The SELFCheck Female Chlamydia Test is only available for women and cannot be used to detect chlamydia infections in men.
The SELFCheck Female Chlamydia Test comes with everything you need to conduct the test.
Do not use the SELFCheck Female Chlamydia Test during pregnancy or menstruation. Wait for 3 days after the end your period before using this test.
Do not use this test if you have a urinary tract infection (UTI).
Avoid urinating for at least one hour before carrying out the test.
Full instructions on how to perform the test can be found enclosed with the packaging. It's important to carefully follow the instructions supplied with the test kit. Failing to follow the instructions correctly can affect the result of the test and may result in a false-negative or false-positive result.
The test kit uses a swab, a buffer solution and a testing cassette.
1.) Assume a comfortable position, such as one you would adopt when inserting a tampon. Insert the swab into your vagina as far as the neck of the womb. Rotate the swab for 30 seconds. Carefully remove the swab and submerge the tip of the swab into the bottle of buffer solution so that the tip of the swab is touching the bottom of the bottle. Turn the swab in the solution and ring it out against the side of the bottle a couple of times. This is to ensure the sample is mixed well with the buffer solution.
2.) Leave the swab in the bottle for 5 minutes. After these 5 minutes have elapsed, squeeze the swab against the side of the bottle and discard of the swab.
3.) Close the bottle and gently shake it, holding the bottle vertically. Snap the tip of the cap off and take out the foil package.
4.) Carefully open the foil pack using the notches marked in the packaging. Remove the test cassette, being careful not to touch the test areas. Discard of the desiccant safely.
5.) Apply 2 drops of the solution to the area on the test cassette marked with an "S". Make sure no liquid falls directly onto the reaction area.
6.) Wait for 15 minutes before looking at your results. Waiting for longer than 20 minutes can result in a false test result. If you need to, use a watch or stopwatch to check the time. You could also use a timer on your phone or smart home device.
7.) After 15 minutes, check your result.
The result is displayed as coloured strips in a small window.
If the result is positive, you should contact your doctor for treatment. They may require to see the test you used. It is important not to delay seeking treatment for chlamydia.
Your partner will also require to be tested.
If your result is negative, it is unlikely that you have a chlamydia infection. Regardless, it's important to regularly test for chlamydia and other sexually transmitted diseases if you are sexually active.
You should dispose your used test kit in the bin out from the sight and reach of children and pets. Do not dispose of the solution via water waste - throw the bottle in the bin.
Always wash your hands after conducting the test.
No, this test kit is only suitable for women.
We offer an alternative chlamydia test, which involves sending a sample to a laboratory for testing.
If your test result is positive, you can buy chlamydia treatment online from Prescription Doctor.
