Calpol Infant is a treatment for children which can help to relieve pain and bring down a fever. It is intended for children aged up to 6 years. If your child is over 6 years old, consider Calpol Six Plus.

Calpol Infant contains a small dose of paracetamol - 120mg per 5ml solution.
Paracetamol is a mild analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer) which is commonly used to treat a wide variety of ailments from headaches to the symptoms of viral infections, such as colds and flu.
The dosage depends on the age of the child.

Before giving Calpol to your child, make sure to shake the bottle for 10 seconds before measuring out the required dose.
Use a measuring spoon or syringe to administer the right dose of Calpol Six Plus suspension. Using a kitchen spoon may result in too high or too low of a dose.
If you are using Sachets, massage the sachet to mix the medicine before administering it to your child.
Do not give your child Calpol Infant for more than 3 days without consulting your family doctor.
Do not give Calpol to children who weigh less than 4kg or were born before 37 weeks. If these apply, seek advice from your doctor or pharmacy before giving your child Calpol.
Every medicine carries the risk of side effects though not everybody gets them. Understanding the risks and being vigilant of any side effects which may occur is important to your health.
Paracetamol is usually well tolerated and unlikely to cause many side effects.

Do not give Calpol Infant to your child if they are allergic to paracetamol, fructose or any of the other excipients of this medicine.
If you notice any signs of allergic reaction following administration of Calpol Infant, cease treatment and seek emergency medical attention by going straight to the A&E department of your nearest hospital.

Calpol Infant can be taken during pregnancy. Take the lowest possible dose to reduce the pain or fever you are experiencing. Do not use for more than 3 days.
Speak to your pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine if you are breastfeeding.
Calpol Infant contains paracetamol and should not be taken alongside other products which also contain paracetamol. Prolonged use of paracetamol can lead to liver and kidney damage.
Calpol Infant contains fructose which some children might be allergic to. Speak to your doctor if you are unsure about whether to give your child Calpol.
Do not store Calpol Infant above 25°C.
Do not give Calpol Infant to your child past the expiry date printed on the label. The date refers to the last day of that month.
Never throw away unwanted or expired medicine via household or water waste. Take any unwanted or expired medicine to your local pharmacy and ask them to dispose of it safely on your behalf.
Always keep medicine out of the sight and reach from children and pets.
If you forget to give your child Calpol, administer a dose as soon as you remember.
Do not give your child more Calpol to make up for the dose you missed.
If you accidentally give your child more than the recommended amount of Calpol, speak to your doctor immediately or take your child straight to the casualty department of your nearest hospital.
Adults can take Calpol Infant, however it may not be as effective as paracetamol products formulated for adults.
If your child is over 6 years old, speak to a pharmacist about suitable products.
Calpol Six Plus is intended for children over 6 years.
If your child does not improve or if their condition becomes worse after taking Calpol Infant, speak to your doctor immediately.
