What Is Trosyl Nail Solution?

Trosyl nail solution is an antifungal treatment from Pfizer. It contains an antifungal called tioconazole, which is part of the imidazole group of medicines.

The nail solution is applied directly to the infected nails.

Get rid of your fungal nail infection with Trosyl nail solution - available to order online from our UK registered pharmacy. If your order is approved before 3pm, Monday to Friday, your item will be dispatched the same day for a next day delivery.

What is a fungal nail infection?

Fungal nail infections often start to develop at the edge of the nail, causing discolouration and damage to the nail.

People with diabetes, weak immune systems and those who share public changing facilities have an increased risk of getting nail infections.

It starts to develop at the edge of the nail and spreads across. If left untreated, a fungal nail infection can cause foot pain or spread to other parts of the body, causing other conditions like athlete's foot, jock itch or cellulitis.

The infection can cause the nail to lift from the nail bed. The nail may need to be partially or fully removed by a medical procedure called avulsion. In some cases, the infected nail may need to be permanently removed (matrixectomy). This involves surgically or chemically destroying the growing centre of the nail's base, preventing the nail from growing back.

If you suspect you have a fungal nail infection, speak to your GP. They will take a sample from your nail to determine whether the infection is caused by a fungus. If the test is positive, they will recommend the right course of treatment.

Treatment usually involves an oral or topical antifungal agent. It can take between 12-18 months for the infection to go away. Successful treatment of fungal nail infection does not provide immunity to future infections, making it possible for the infection to return.

How Does Trosyl Nail Solution Work?

Trosyl nail solution destroys yeast and fungi by blocking their ability to produce ergosterol, an important part of fungal cell membranes.

The cell membrane keeps the fungi alive by stopping foreign substances from entering, and also prevents cell contents from leaking out.

Tioconazole, the active ingredient of Trosyl nail solution, weakens the fungal cell membrane, causing holes to develop in it. The fungal cells die once the cellular contents spill out.

By killing the infection from the source, the symptoms of the fungal nail infection improve, and a new, healthy nail is able to grow in its place.

How long does Trosyl nail solution take to work?

Trosyl nail solution can take up to 6 months to work.

In some cases, it might take up to 12 months to fully treat a fungal nail infection.

How long Trosyl nail solution takes to work, and how long it takes for your infection to clear, will depend on the severity of your infection and your response to the treatment.

How Do I Use Trosyl Nail Solution?

Always use the solution as your pharmacist or doctor says. Speak with your pharmacist or doctor if you have any questions or concerns.

Using the brush provided, thinly apply Trosyl solution to cover the entire affected nail(s) and adjacent skin every 12 hours.

Let Trosyl solution dry for 10 to 15 minutes following application. The cutaneous solution does not dry hard.

A faintly greasy, transparent film containing the antifungal ingredient meant to gradually pass through the nail and get to the infected site will be left on the nail.

Keep the film intact for the longest time possible for maximum antifungal effect.

While plain water does not remove the film, soapy water does. Washing up gloves should be worn during exposure to soapy water to prevent the medicine from being washed away.

What should I do if I forget to apply Trosyl nail solution when I should?

If you forget to apply Trosyl when you should, apply the nail solution as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next Trosyl solution application, skip the missed application and continue to use Trosyl nail solution as prescribed. Refrain from applying more of the nail solution to make up for the missed application.

Do not apply more of the nail solution to make up for the missed dose.

What should I do if I apply too much Trosyl nail solution?

If you apply too much Trosyl solution, use tissue paper to wipe away any excess.

The use of excess Trosyl solution does not help clear the fungal infection any faster but may increase your risk of experiencing side effects.
