What Is Zineryt Lotion?

Zineryt lotion is a topical acne treatment that contains an antibiotic called erythromycin.

The antibiotic kills the bacteria associated with acne, allowing the skin to heal itself naturally. The solution contains zinc to help the skin absorb the medicine and improve its healing capabilities.

With help from PrescriptionDoctor, you can say goodbye to irritating acne.

After answering some medical questions via an online questionnaire, we'll put you in touch with one of our healthcare professionals to discuss acne treatments with you.

Unlike acne creams, Zineryt does not come ready-made. Our pharmacist will pre-mix the chemicals before sending them to you. Once mixed, the medicine has a shelf life of between 5 and 8 weeks.

Zineryt is only available on prescription in the UK. One of our online doctors can issue a private prescription for Zineryt following an online consultation.

How Does Zineryt Treat Acne?

Zineryt contains erythromycin and zinc.

Erythromycin kills acne-causing bacteria.

These bacteria thrive on sebum which builds up in clogged skin pores. The bacteria excrete chemicals that irritate the skin, leading to inflammation.

By reducing the number of bacteria and their harmful excretions, the skin is able to heal.

Zinc enables the skin to heal faster and is used in various treatments, including wound dressings.

How long does Zineryt take to work?

Compared to other acne treatments, such as Oxytetracycline, Zineryt starts to work relatively quickly.

It may take between 10 and 12 weeks of treatment with Zineryt for acne to clear up.

If your acne returns, you may be able to restart treatment with Zineryt. Speak to a doctor about restarting treatment.

If no improvement appears within eight weeks, or if acne worsens, stop using Zineryt and speak to a doctor.

You can message one of our online doctors through your Prescription Doctor account. If you have any concerns about your treatment, you can inform one of our doctors, who can discuss your concerns with you.

How to use Zineryt lotion?

Zineryt comes as a dry powder and a solvent, which need to be mixed together before you can use it.

Our pharmacist will mix the solution for you before they send it so that it's ready to use right away.

One of our online prescribers will instruct you how to use Zineryt, including how much and how often you should use it.

The bottle comes with a special applicator pad built into the cap. The applicator pad makes it easier to evenly apply the lotion to your skin.

Before you use Zineryt, wash the area you will be applying the solution.

  1. Remove the cap to expose the applicator.
  2. Tip the bottle upside down so that the pad is facing downwards. Let the solution flow onto the pad evenly. Do not squeeze the bottle when you do this.
  3. Hold the pad against your face or skin and gently spread the solution over the infected area. Make sure you cover all the affected areas evenly. You can increase the flow by pressing the pad against your skin. Do not squeeze the bottle.
  4. Once you have applied Zineryt lotion, replace the cap, ensuring it fits tightly to the bottle.

You must take Zineryt for as long as prescribed. Stopping your treatment too soon may cause your infection to come back.

Avoid getting Zineryt solution in the eyes, nose and mouth. If you accidentally get Zineryt in your eyes, nose or mouth, rinse the area with cold water for a few minutes.

Let the Zineryt lotion dry before applying make-up, moisturisers or other skin care products, including other topical treatments.

What should I do if I forget to apply Zineryt lotion when I should?

If you forget to apply Zineryt lotion when you should, use it as soon as you remember.

Do not apply more Zineryt lotion to make up for the missed dose. Leave 3 hours before you use it again.

Forgetting to use Zineryt can slow down the healing process.

What should I do if I apply too much Zineryt lotion?

If you accidentally apply too much Zineryt lotion, wipe the excess away with a tissue.
