Tranexamic Acid is an antifibrinolytic medication used to prevent excessive bleeding. It works by blocking the breakdown of blood clots. Tranexamic Acid is most commonly used by women suffering from heavy menstrual bleeding but can also be used by patients following bladder, prostate, or cervical surgery, with traumatic hyphema and haemophiliacs after tooth extraction. It is available in tablet form without the need to see a GP when obtained through Prescription Doctor.
However, hormone treatment like Norethisterone 5mg Tablets, which can postpone periods for up to 17 days, is recommended if one is looking to delay a period.
How Does Tranexamic Acid Work and What Are Its Uses?
Tranexamic Acid helps your blood to clot, preventing excessive blood flow out of the body.
In the case of medical procedures, it usually comes as an injection to treat or prevent excessive blood loss from major trauma, postpartum bleeding, surgery, and tooth removal.
Tranexamic Acid can also be used to treat Hereditary Angioedema (HAE), a condition which causes parts of the body to swell.
